Family WORKSHOPS
This workshop is for families of all sizes!
What: Nature painting with museum exhibited artist! Hi, I’m Joy and I would love to share the process I invented to make the paintings I show in galleries and museums.
We will make one 5” x 7” painting for up to 4 people and 1 large 2’ x 3’ or 2’ x 4’ painting.
Your whole family will come together to make a beautiful colorful puddle with your custom colors. Then we will put lots of fun materials in the puddles and wait for them to evaporate.
When your painting is dry you get to peel some of the materials off and see the details that magically appeared from the veins of the leaves, the flower petals, and all the other materials you will get to experiment with!
When your piece is finished we will decide together if you want to cut your big beautiful painting into multiple pieces, keep it as one big piece, or I can even laser cut it into custom shapes such as mermaids, star wars fighter jets, or any other theme for your party. I can frame your piece for an extra fee, but I will guide you to the most affordable option for you! I know many tricks to keep the cost of framing down and I will be happy to share them with you or to do it for you!
Where: Are you looking for a hidden gem of an urban experience? Then come on over to my art studio located in an old manufacturing building filled with other amazing artists and small businesses. We are located in the 1241 Carpenter St. building and there is even a parking lot in back that is available after 6pm and on weekends.
Time: Family workshops are 2 - 2.5 hours long and will need to sit on my table for up to a week to dry.

My original art goes for $3000 for pieces that are as large as the beautiful painting we will be making together. I put together this type of experience because as much as I love selling my big pieces of art, there is nothing more powerful than seeing your beautiful painting(s) in your home everyday and being reminded that together you can make something beautiful! Your piece can also become an heirloom that is passed down from generation to generation.

What a wonderful experience! Jessica was very easy to communicate with in the planning of our workshop. She gave us options and recommendations which ended up being the perfect workshop to meet our groups interest, time, and financial needs. The time spent in the studio was AMAZING! About my Process
I created this process which I call a colorful meditation process to help me with my own wellbeing and joy. The playful yet relaxing process of watching the puddles of color flow and move around on the paper pulls the participant out of the worrisome future and into the present to a place where they are free to explore without expectations. The process is grounding and at the same time lifts the worries of everyday life. I also do not use brushes in this process because I find that a brush introduces expectations of knowing what you want to create before you create it. I have spoken to so many people who have told me that they want to make art, but they just don't know what to make. My process alleviates that stress because it promotes playful experimentation that many haven't been able to do since they were a kid. I love doing these workshops as a group because it helps us let go of expectations and we will all be jumping into the unknown together. I have also done large pieces in my studio with 47 kids working on one giant piece and it is so wonderful to see what many can create together when they let go. Letting go is the key to creating successful outcomes, and I tell my participants that the more you let go, the more possibilities will present themselves to you and the better the painting will turn out! I also say, "if you can spill milk you can create a beautiful piece of art with Project Joy" to help everybody know that they can do this so nobody gives up before they start!
