I’ve been asking people one question since I was five years old:
“What do you make?”
Because making art was more than something I enjoyed—
it was my greatest source of strength during a childhood that often felt limiting.
Creating gave me a way to see possibilities
even when life felt small.
Project Joy Studio was created for all the people who told me,
“I don’t have a creative bone in my body”
“I can’t draw a straight line”
and
“I can barely draw a stick figure”
What if you were never “not creative”… you were just not encouraged to believe that your creativity mattered?
FROM FINE ART… TO SOMETHING MORE
As an artist, my work has been collected and exhibited internationally.
But what stayed with me wasn’t the finished pieces and the pride of seeing my work in museums and galleries—
It was what happened while creating them.
The sense of possibility.
The way materials could surprise you.
The realization that there isn’t one right way—there are infinite ways.
I started to wonder:
What if more people could experience that feeling?
Not in a gallery.
But with their own hands.
MAKING CREATIVITY ACCESSIBLE
That question led to the creation of Project Joy Studio.
I had already developed new ways of making art—
ones that removed pressure, skill barriers, and fear.
The processes and materials I invented for myself made creating art fun and put me in an explorer mindset, which is more childlike and fun than being a disciplined technician that has to have technical skills that can take years to develop.
I went from making 4 paintings a year to making 300 paintings in 9 months!
In 2017 I realized that the best way to help others access their creativity was to share new freeing ways of creating art with others!
Experiences where:
You don’t need to know how to draw
You don’t need to “get it right”
You can create something genuinely beautiful on your first try
That’s where our signature experiences come from:
Puddle Painting — where color, water, and movement do the work and the more you let go the better your art turns out!
Color Cells — a new translucent material inspired by stained glass, without the fragility
These aren’t just activities.
They’re invitations to see yourself differently.
WHY IT MATTERS
Because when people create something they didn’t think they could…
Something shifts.
They start to question other limits they’ve accepted.
They start to see possibilities where they didn’t before.
And that doesn’t stay in the studio.
It shows up in how they live.
WHAT WE’RE BUILDING
Project Joy Studio is growing into more than workshops and art kits.
It’s a movement toward creative confidence.
A new mindset that kids, adults, teams, and entire communities can use to reconnect with their ability to create.
A reminder that:
You are not stuck.
You are not limited.
You are the creator of art, music, food, opportunities….and your life!
From my 5 year old self to you,
“What will you make?”
